Valentine's Day Self-Care Gift Guide
Pop quiz. Who is the first person you think of when your heart breaks? Is it the same person who comes to mind when you celebrate? Often, our first instinct is to look to someone to blame, someone to give credit to, someone who is not ourselves.
The ego is a funny valentine. It requires nourishment, compliments, adulation. But not too much. Ego gets out of control when neglected and most certainly when inflated. We recognize this especially in the most expressive personalities — people who are unafraid to let you see their anger, sadness, joy.
Ego is necessary, however. It sets boundaries of likes and dislikes so we don’t keep hurting ourselves. Our hearts can only take so much.
When we learn to think of ourselves first — take responsibility, take pride — before sharing the moment with someone else, we present the most balanced version of ourselves and we’re less likely to get lost in the drama, unless the moment calls for it ;)
Give yourself, or a loved one, the gift of self-care this V-Day. It’s the ego check we all need.
